I’ve just jumped in to the vloggesphere! This is kind of a big deal for me. Yes, I can stand up on stage in front of an audience and give a kick-ass live performance. I’ve been doing it for decades. But, can I sit in front of a camera, in an empty room, and talk to my audience? No immediate feedback? No super charged “energy exchange?” Well, we’re going to find out!
My next thought when considering vlogging was, what do I have to offer? Well, as I mentioned above…a couple of decades of experience as a live rock performer.
In the local music business everything is DIY. There’s no contract, no label, and no machine behind you. That means there’s no one telling you how to do something and no one clamoring to do the heavy lifting for you. Of course, the nice thing is, there’s no one telling you what you have to do. So, how do you learn the ropes in this business? Through fellow musicians? Others in the music industry? YouTube? I say, ALL OF THE ABOVE and more!
Basically, you’ve got to keep your RADAR up and absorb information from as many sources as possible. And don’t forget, you can learn from mistakes too. PRO TIP: It’s best if it’s someone else’s mistake.
My vlog focuses on helping fellow DIY musicians, particularly live performers, do what they do better through musicians tips and information sharing on a host of topics from gear reviews, to stage presence, to dealing with venue owners/booking agents. If you have suggestions regarding a topic, hit me up by sending me an email and I’ll try to include it in an upcoming vlog.
